Tajtastic

Hello friends, I went to the Taj Mahal this morning and it was unbelievable.
I don't think I've ever looked at anything and thought "that is perfect" before. I mean really perfect. I don't know exactly how to describe it, but it had this otherworldly quality. The marble actually glows like a cloud when the sun hits it. I sat there and looked at it for hours. Literally.
Maybe I need to process my impressions more thoroughly before I can communicate them, but I was in awe. I thought it wouldn't live up to the hype, but it really does.
Tonight I take a night train to Varanasi.
If you sporadically don't hear from me, it's because there are frequent, unscheduled power cuts here. If there's no power, there's no internet.
Today, I've been blessed with super-fast internet. How does this benefit you, you ask? Pictures! Lots of them. Enjoy: http://new.photos.yahoo.com/laurenemilywinter27/

Hi there!!!

I am trying to see if you have noticed my comments in your recent blogs??

Being in South India, I just want to offer any info that feel you need --from a local perspective... sort of a sounding board.... Now that you are in India, I am reviving my offer...This is just a friendly gesture with no "ulterior motives"...

Though one of your friends did tick me off vrey severely in her blog... I felt.. what the hell.... no harm in sharing whatever info that I know !! as an Indian....

Probably you will be in Benaras now??? (the other name for Varanasi) If I may say so-- look for the pure Silk Sarees. Banaras is one of the places famous for Pure Silk sarees from the past 400 years.. (The other places being Kanjeevaram & Mysore-both in the south..).

If you do feel like it, you can mail me on shesh25@gmail.com for any general queries... I live in Bangalore in the South..

The new blogger format is a little foxing--I took some time to get around to your blog.... I accessed google & then typed in yor blog name & landed at your blog :--)

Take care
Shesh

Hey dorkus!
I finally got around to giving you a shout out here. Sounds like you're have a great time being all toasty in India while the rest of use are curled up in our fleece blankets here in MPLS.

I can't remember when you're getting back home (May?), but make sure to give me a call so we can finally get together for drinks again.

Have fun on the rest of your trip!

Just a preliminary brief note to tell you that your photos of the Taj and the trek are up to your excellent standards. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to look at them in enlarged format, but even from the thumnails one can see that the quality and subject matter are top drawer!

Good move with the gold band! I was jokingly going to suggest that move one or two blogs ago, having heard of that being done by one of the Americorp/Habitat girls that also traveled alone recently. We were teasing her about being an "old maid" and having to buy her own ring to impress others, but in certain situations it is definitely a good idea.

We had our Habitat get-together last evening and Bud asked about you so I left with him a copy of your "Immodium" and "Tajtastic" blogs. I know that he will appreciate being able to read them rather than having me synopsize that phase of your travels. By the way, I thought that your description of the Taj was excellent! Not that I am any kind of judge, but when you see something that strikes you as being perfect, the only way to describe it is the way that you did, even if you found it necessary to employ a "manufactured superlative"!

Thanks for all the photos! I'm looking forward to the weekend when I will have more time to devote to their perusal! Stay well!
