THe Halls of Learning

Hello friends, I'm finally reporting to you from Nashville, or "Nash Vegas" as some people call it.
I'm already using blogging as a homework-avoidance tool. This does not bode well. The laptop is a dangerous thing.
Dad and I drove down here last week. It was nice to spend the time together, though Dad would have preferred less togetherness with the car trailer. He did not enjoy towing my car.
We made it here in one piece and had the joy of unloading at 1:00pm in hundred-degree heat. Nashville natives keep assuring us outsiders that this heat is unusual, but I'm not so sure....
My plan all along has been to bike to school, but since it's been over 100 every day since I got here, I folded and bought a parking pass. I have never enjoyed AC as much as I do now.
Orientation started Wednesday and went through Friday. It's been a little overwhelming. Meeting hundreds of new people gets exhausting.
Here are some stats on my class:
-20% are 25 or over. This means 80% is under 25. I did not expect this. Why not? I don't know.
-several of the men showed up in pink polo shirts. Draw your own conclusions.
-one guy managed to annoy the entire class on the second day of orientation and earned a nickname he will probably never be able to divorce himself from (unless he transfers schools...)
-the guy sitting next to me in my legal writing class was working at a bank and survived a bank robbery! Exciting stuff!
I have no problems to report from the homefront, other than the fact that the dog ate my underwear. This is much funnier than if the dog had eaten my shirt, so I decided to forgive him for it.
I was trying to find the bookstore today and took a wrong turn. I ended up in the middle of hordes of freshman moving into the dorms. I have to say I'm glad those days are behind me.
I'm reading about the origins of contracts and contract law for my first class on Monday. I actually think it's interesting, but blogging is providing a necessary break.
Hugs.
Lauren

Well, there you are again. At last! Checking your blog became an enjoyable habit, so I've missed your entries and I'm glad to have you back online.

Hmmm...I actually thought you might still be acclimated to the heat.

Please do share what the annoying guy's nickname is!

Oh, and be sure to balance studying with fun.

Namaste...Lots of love...

Hi y’all, or aren’t you far enough south for that kind of greeting? It’s good to hear from you again via the blog route. I had begun to despair that you had abandoned that means of communication in favor of some other method with, perhaps, just your close personal friends!

I had been checking your blog with some frequency but when, after 3 weeks, it began to appear that the shampoo episode might have been the last, my visits to “itchyfootlauren” became more infrequent. I can understand that with classes already started you have considerably less time to communicate than you did when you were on your journey but I’m hopeful that we’ll hear from you regarding your academic progress as one of the “Commodores,” or any other topic that seems appropriate from time to time. Since you didn’t have to go through freshman orientation, I’m guessing that you were able to avoid wearing the beanie with the little propeller too, right? One of my grandson’s received an appointment to the Air Force Academy this year and they started their “orientation” the last week in June. I’ll tell you that it was a bit more rigorous than wearing a beanie with a propeller! That phase of the program has now ended and they are into their academics full time. And whereas when he was living at home I’d hear from him on a nearly everyday basis (playing chess on-line) his e-mails are more on the order of one per every third week and the chess board has been abandoned in favor of marching, inspections, honor guard drills and the like. So I can understand your not having as much time to blog as frequently as before (can “blog” be a verb??) Anyway, unless you can convince your readers that you’re also marching & drilling daily and having room inspections at least once a week, might we expect to hear from you with a little more frequency?

Interesting neighbor in your class (bank robbery victim). But it’s a lot better than sitting next to the robber!

Til next time…..

George
